The Interesting list of ingredients such as Kakadu Plum, Illawarra Flame Tree and Emu Apple deserves some closer attention! |
Let's Take a Closer Look at some of these Ingredients
Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate
'Unlike L-Ascorbic acid, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate will not exfoliate or irritate the skin. It is well tolerated by even the most sensitive skin types. Also unlike regular Vitamin C , it can be used in high doses, and for up to eighteen months without oxidizing.'1
The Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate in Happily Ever After Vitamin C Eye serum reduces the production of oxidizing agents, which contribute to cell damage after exposure to UV or chemical hazards. This effect is even stronger than in pure vitamin C. Additionally, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate protects against DNA damage and skin darkening caused by UV exposure. Finally, skin visual appearance is also improved by Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, as it promotes collagen synthesis and acts as a hydrating agent in reducing skin roughness.2
Key benefits of Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate in skin care:
I love the fact that this oil soluble form of Vitamin C does not cause skin irritation and is stable for eighteen months without oxidising!
So many Vitamin C serums using Ascorbic Acid need high percentages to be effective, are irritating, and must be used and stored correctly as oxidisation is a major problem. Not with Happily Ever After Vitamin C Eye Serum...it just keeps on doing wonders for your skin without the irritation! Marvellous.

Kakadu Plum

The Kakadu Plum has been identified world wide as the single natural food source with the highest vitamin C content on the planet. It contains 3000mg of vitamin C per 100g of fruit - over 50 times the concentration found in oranges.8
Kakadu Plum (also known as Gubinge, Billygoat Plum or Murunga) is a native tree from Australia, found exclusively in the Northern Territory & Arnhem Land. Indigenous Australians have used this plant and fruit extensively for food, its healing properties and traditional medicine, such as antiseptics and soothing balms for aching limbs. Tests have shown it contains the world's highest levels of vitamin C. Kakadu Plum offers exciting opportunities for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals products that deliver potent actives.9
The Kakadu Plum is unique in that it not only contains amazing levels of Vitamin C and so, is a powerful antioxidant, it is also rich in phenolic acids which have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The Kakadu Plum contains a particularly useful phenolic acid namely, Gallic Acid, which is a powerful anti-oxidant, anti-fungal and antiviral medicine for the skin.
Gallic Acid
"Gallic acid...[has] anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. Gallic acid acts as an antioxidant and helps to protect our cells against oxidative damage. Gallic acid was found to show cytotoxicity against cancer cells, without harming healthy cells." 10
In addition to Gallic Acid, the Kakadu Plum is rich in Ellagic Acid which encourages elasticity and suppleness in aged skin and reduces inflammation of skin cells. In fact Ellagic Acid is a remarkable phytochemical!
Ellagic Acid
Studies have shown that Ellagic acid has antioxidant, anti-mutagen and anti-cancer properties on cancer cells of the breast, oesophagus, skin, colon, prostate and pancreas. More specifically, ellagic acid prevents the destruction of P53 gene by cancer cells. Ellagic acid can bind with cancer causing molecules, thereby making them inactive.10
Happy Organic Skincare includes both these amazing phytochemicals in their Vitamin C Serum simply because they are good for your skin!

- Gallic acid is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
- Gallic acid acts as an antioxidant to protect skin cells from free radicals.
- Excellent wound healer and may have a use in the treatment of psorasis.9

Illawarra Flame Tree

The Illawarra Flame Tree has always been one of my favourite trees...it reminds me of the Jacaranda only red instead of purple. It is truly a magnificent tree when in full bloom.
The flowers of this tree have wonderful health and healing benefits as it is packed with potent bio-actives for skin health. What most people do not know is that the flowers of the Illawarra Flame Tree contain Flavan -3- Ol Catechin which is a powerful antioxidant that is 100 times more potent than Vitamin C and 25 times more potent than Vitamin E. Not only is the flower extract from this tree a potent antioxidant it has also been found to actually increase the antioxidant activity of Vitamin C!
Happily Ever After Vitamin C Eye Serum is therefore a virtual powerhouse of Vitamin C, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories and antiviral extracts.

Emu Apple

Emu apples or native cranberries, (Kunzea pomifera) are delicious red-tinged green or purple berries that grow along the southern coast of Australia. In a landmark study investigating the antioxidant properties of native Australian foods, Emu Apples had the second highest radical scavenging activtity of the seven plants examined, and they contain up to four times more antioxidants than blueberries and provide natural waxes that nourish the skin.
Like the Kakadu Plum, Emu Apples contain gallic acid, a powerful antioxidant and excellent wound healer. The berries also contain flavone glycosides, an important ingredient in natural skincare, as they facilitate the absorption of other vital ingredients into the skin. Flavone glycosides are strong antioxidants that protect the skin from aging and strengthen capillaries. They are also ideal for reducing dark circles and puffiness under the eyes11 by strengthening capillaries.12 Flavone Glycosides also stabilise Vitamin C and work synergistically together intensifing the anti-oxidant activity of Vitamin C.

Final Words
The ingredients in Happily Ever After Vitamin C Eye Serum speak for themselves. I can see no reason why anyone who loves organic, vegan products and wants healthy skin would not use this product. It is well priced for the quality and effectiveness...and is quite simply a must have serum to add to any skincare regime. It Works!
